Pretty, Pretty,Pretty

I do a lot of crafty/artsy projects!  I need creative outlets!  And I am usually pleased with my product.  Ofcourse sometimes, it is a total flop, but other times, the project comes out even more beautiful than I anticipate.

This is one of those times.

When I was a young girl, my Grandma made us personalized pillowcases. embroidered with floweres and our names.  I loved it!

My Grandma is 93 years old now, and it has become increasingly difficult to buy her a Christmas Gift, because she doesn’t want anything, or need anything.

So I came up with this great idea to make her a pillowcase.  I chose a fabric that coordinates well with her room, and then a few accents, I have yet to embroider her name, but I am too excited not to share!  I think this is sucha pretty pillow case!

I’m not bragging right?

Even God recognized and acknowledged that what He had created was Good!

I’m certainly not God, just following His example!!!

Grandma’s Flower Garden

When I was a young girl, my Grandma made me a quilt by hand.  I was in awe that she would spend the time and put forth the effort to create an entire queen sized masterpiece for me!  I still have it, tucked away in a safe place, because it needs repairs!  I hold it so dear, I don’t even have it out to enjoy (shame on me)

At the May Farm  old quilts, with or without repairs are displayed and used and it is so charming!

One in particular is Grandma’s Flower Garden!

Mrs. May taught us this beautiful pattern, and it can be done using scrap fabric!

i was so delighted!  I came home and started immediately.  Carefully selecting coordinating and complimentary scraps to create my first flower…

It took a couple weeks, of finding spare time and grabbing my needle and thread to get this one done, but I am so pleased with the outcome!

So excited in fact, that I grabbed my bucket of scraps and went from this overstuffed, unorganized, bucket of things i felt too quilty to throw away

To this basket of beautiful quilt pieces just waiting to be assembled…

In just one evening of handing out scissors to the Fruit Loops, and cutting away!

(Thank goodness the next day was vacuuming day!)

For fun we pulled out some pieces and began creating ‘flowers’ we want to stitch together…

I can’t wait to get stitchin!!!!

I could easily neglect all of my resonsibilities to sit and stitch,

but I doubt My Dear Mrs. May would approve of that.

So, I shall scurry through the days tasks, hoping to find time (and energy) when all is done, to assemble another flower!

Plum Crazy

I have a Titus 2 Woman!

Half my adult life (atleast) I have prayed for a Titus 2 Woman.  And finally God has answered my prayer.  And my dear Titus 2 Woman at the May Farm is teaching me so much!  I am so grateful for her!

She not only teaches me, but her joy in doing what she teaches is contagioius, and so as I am busy about my house, I am finding great pleasure in being so!

Well, last Saturday, she sent me home with a jar of plum juice, straight from her steam juicer, full of plums from a friends yard.  And with that plum juice, she sent instructions to make plum jelly.

I followed her instructions, as I remembered and here is what happened…

I poured my beautiful red violet plum juice into a pan.

I added 3/4 cup sugar for every 1 cup juice.

I simmered over low heat stirring constantly to bring to a light boil and thicken.

I stirred, and stirred and stirred, for an hour.

I watched as my red violet juice turned to froth, and the color seemed to change to mahogony tone.

But I thought to myself, ’she said this is how to do it, and so I continued”

Suddenly, the thickens seemed to have taken over, and I knew I had to quickly get it into jars!  I assumed that when it cooled, it would be what it was suppose to be

So I tried to fill the small lovely jelly jars I had set aside for just such an occasion as my first jelly…

The funnel didn’t help…

So I tried going straight to the jar…

Going straight to the jar proved to be even more difficult

and painful, I burned my finger and the blister is huge!

I was so discouraged!!!!!

I thought I followed the directions!

I had to leave the mess in the kitchen for a time, adn then come back ready to clean up the mess.

It was a lengthy process to reheat the goo and get it off the the utensils, the pot, the jar, the counter…

All the while lamenting what could have been, if only I had followed the instructions more carefully.

I must have missed something!

I did miss something…

The e-mail telling me this method won’t work for plum jelly, and the revised instructions!

Sweet Cinnamon Biscuits

In my home, our food tends to be seasonal.

It is fall, and that means more baking, more homemade breads, and stews.

We are in the house more, and I want the house to smell good, I find it keeps the residents happy!

We made these old fashioned Cinnamon Biscuits for breakfast, and I just had to share the recipe.

Note: Comfort Food, such as Sweet Cinnamon Biscuits, are not about health, these babies are packed with nothing good for your body, but they sure do bring smiles to the table and that is food for the soul!

2 Cups Flour

1 Tbsp Baking Powder

1 Tsp Salt

1/4 Tsp Baking Soda

1/4 Cup Vegetable Oil

3/4 Cup Buttermilk

Filling

8 Tbsp Butter, Softened

3/4 Cup Sugar

1 Tbsp Cinnamon

Combine Dry Ingredients.  Mix in oil and buttermilk.  Knead dough lightly on floured surface.  Roll dough into 15×8 inch rectangle.

Mix all ingredients for filling.  Spread over dough.  Roll dough, so the log is 15 inches long. Slice into 8 slices.  Arrange in greased pie pan and bake at 400 degrees for 20min.

Serve Warm!
